Are you preparing for an in-home newborn photoshoot in Raleigh, NC? As a seasoned newborn photographer based in Raleigh, I’ve gathered valuable insights and tips to ensure your session goes smoothly and captures those precious early moments with your little one. In this guide, I’ll share expert advice on how to make the most of your in-home newborn session.
1. Schedule Wisely
Timing is everything when it comes to newborn photography. Schedule your session during the morning or early afternoon when natural light is abundant, creating soft and flattering lighting conditions. This helps to showcase your baby’s delicate features beautifully. Leading up to your session, pay special attention to what time of day natural light is most abundant in your home.
2. Prepare the Space
Before my arrival, declutter and tidy up the rooms we will be photographing in. These rooms will be the rooms with the best light + baby’s nursery. Take a laundry basket and collect all the out of place items around the house. You can stow that basket in a closet to organize at a later time.
Clear away any unnecessary items and create a cozy setting with blankets, pillows, and soft fabrics. Clear off nightstands and store electronics away. Not only will this save us time on the day of your session, it will also ensure that you and your family are the sole focus of these photos!
3. Keep Baby Comfortable
Together, we’ll strive to ensure your baby remains happy and content throughout the photoshoot. One effective way to achieve this is by maintaining a slightly warmer temperature in your home than usual. It’s essential to feed your baby well before my arrival to keep them comfortable and settled.
With a cozy and well-fed baby, our aim is to encourage a peaceful nap during the session, allowing us to capture those precious, snug moments. However, even if your baby doesn’t nap, rest assured that the photos will still exude that newborn sweetness. When dressing your little one, opt for soft, comfortable clothing like a neutral onesie, ensuring unrestricted movement and that is gentle on their delicate skin.
4. Embrace Natural Poses
One of the joys of in-home newborn photography is capturing the natural interactions and tender moments between parents and baby. Embrace natural poses and expressions, focusing on the love and connection shared within your family. Snuggle up together on the couch, cradle your baby in your arms, and let the photographer capture the magic as it unfolds. Even if your baby is fussy, we will still get beautiful photos simply by embracing the moment.
5. Be Flexible
Babies can be unpredictable, and that’s okay! Be flexible and go with the flow during the session. Regardless of what happens during your session, I am going to make sure you have beautiful photos and feel comfortable.
One reason we allot 2 hours for newborn sessions is so that we can allow plenty of time for feeding, changing, and comforting breaks as needed. Even if things don’t go as planned, I’m going to take care of you guys.
6. Relax and Enjoy
Above all, relax and enjoy the experience of capturing these precious moments with your newborn. Allow me to guide you through the process all while capturing the essence of your sweet family. Remember, these photos will be cherished memories for years to come, so savor every moment of this special time with your little family.
By following these expert tips, you can ensure a successful and enjoyable Raleigh in-home newborn session that beautifully captures the love, joy, and tenderness of this fleeting stage in your baby’s life.
