UNC WEDDING PLANS

When Chandler came over to my house for her wedding consultation to discuss us photographing her and Daniel’s UNC wedding at the Highgrove Estate outside of Raleigh, NC, we clicked instantly! Daniel is in the military and was away, so he wasn’t able to be there for the consult. However, after hearing Chandler talk about him, their relationship, and all the wedding details, I knew they were a TR Couple through and through!

These two met during Chandler’s freshmen year at UNC-Chapel Hill. One thing I loved about working with these two is how they included their love for their alma mater and the place they met all throughout the process. They opted to have their engagement session on campus, brought Carolina blue into their wedding day color scheme, and even had a Pom Pom exit from their reception! The details of the day were so personalized to Daniel and Chandler’s love story!

THE PROPOSAL

They also got engaged on UNC’s campus by the Davie Poplar Bench. Daniel was in his dress blues and seemed very nervous for some odd reason. They were sitting on the bench, and Daniel was rambling about something. Chandler kept seeing a boot step forward in a nearby bush, and was confused as to why. Shortly after, Dan got down on his knee and proposed to Chandler. That’s when it clicked that the random boot belonged to a friend trying to get some pictures for them.

THE WEDDING DAY

Christopher and I have very differing opinions on this, but for me personally this was one of the trickiest weddings we ever shot! It was incredibly stormy the day of the wedding. Inside the venue was so dark that we had to use flash to light the details and many of the portraits.

They also had a larger wedding party so shooting those portraits indoors wasn’t an option. We went out on the front porch of the Highgrove to get those shots. While I was directing the wedding party on posing, it was thundering and lightning quite a bit! They had an awesome group though, so we were able to get all the things we needed!

The storm quit shortly before the ceremony, so Chandler and Daniel were able to have the ceremony outdoors as they originally planned. Even though they shared a first look, I can honestly say it did not spoil Dan’s reaction to seeing Chandler walk down the aisle! He seriously had one of the sweetest reactions ever!
