Microwedding. Perhaps it’s a term you have seen on Pinterest as you scroll though ideas of how to plan a North Carolina wedding during a pandemic. It’s certainly becoming a bit of a buzz word in the wedding industry, and rightfully so. Even though we are in the midst of a pandemic, the world is still turning and couples are still getting engaged. While for some, waiting to get married until we’re on the other side of coronavirus pandemic is feasible, it’s simply not for others. If waiting is not an option for you and your fiancé’ then a microwedding may be the perfect solution!
Before we talk about why a microwedding may be a good fit for you, let’s define exactly what a microwedding is. A microwedding is a traditional wedding, but with a condensed guest list (usually 50 people or under). This guest list typically includes those closest to you an your husband to be such as family and BFF’s! Microweddings have all the things that make up a wedding such as a bridal party, toasts, and special dances. It’s just all of this happens with only your VIP’s around. Let’s talk about five benefits of a having your own microwedding.
1. THE PRESSURE IS OFF
Since the pandemic started, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph a handful of microweddings. One of the top benefits I have noticed for my TR Couples is that they’re way less stressed then my couples who have full service wedding days. With only your innermost circle in attendance, you truly feel free to relax and savor the moments. You’re not as worried about the logistics of the day because of having fewer people in attendance. You’re able to take your time and be in the moment.
2. YOUR ABLE TO AMP UP THE EXPERIENCE
Because of the reduced guest list, you’re going to save money on all sorts of things. Because of this savings, you’re able to amp up the experience for your guests who are in attendance. Imagine the cost you were planning on spending per person at wedding of 150 people- now double or triple it and use that to create a luxury experience for your guests. You now have the finances to amp up the aesthetics of the day whether that means splurging on the vintage furniture rentals you pinned ages ago or investing in elaborate floral centerpieces and bouquets. If you and your fiancé are foodies, provide a multi-course tasting style dinner. If you love art, then hire a professional wedding painter. If you value your memories and being able to share them with the friends and family who can’t attend then hire your dream photographer (hint, hint, wink, wink).
It’s pretty awesome that you can splurge, but still save money simply because of the reduced guest count.
3. YOU’RE ACTUALLY ABLE TO SPEND TIME WITH YOUR GUESTS.
Oftentimes at weddings, the couple is working sp hard to get around to and speak to all the guests in attendance that they hardly get to even eat or spend time with each other. With a microwedding, you’re able to do all of the above!
4 . YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME FOR THOSE IMPORTANT PHOTOGRAPHS.
Even though you will have fewer hours of photography coverage for a microwedding, we still have ample time to capture the day fully because you’re not being pulled in a zillion different directions. You don’t have so many guests or logistical things pulling your attention away. I’ve also noticed because of the smaller group, it makes getting those photographs that mean so much to you easier simply because there are fewer people to corral. It’s super easy to be efficient while still capturing the day beautifully!
5. YOU’RE ABLE TO GET MARRIED NOW
Because of COVID, large weddings aren’t very feasible at the moment. There’s so much guess work as to when gathering limits will be lifted and when things will go back to “normal”. If you don’t want to wait for these things, then a microwedding may be the perfect fit for you! It’s the perfect blend of a traditional wedding day and an elopement. My couples who have had a microwedding have all said that they still had a perfect day! After all, at the end of the day you’re still going to marry the love of your life, and that is what it is all about!
